  • Collyhurst Nursery and Children’s Centre: Support for vulnerable families; how they built and maintained positive relationships with targeted families to improve school readiness, support good attendance, and ensure early identification of any additional needs.
  • Parrswood High School: Parenting Your Teen’ Course; Running a parenting course to improve attendance and prevent behavioural and emotional problems in young people by enhancing the knowledge, skills and confidence of parents.
  • St Margaret’s CE Primary School: Parents’ Council; Running a successful parents’ council.
  • Stanley Grove Primary Academy: The Big Book Bash: Building & Sustaining Community Links; How they held a community event to engage children and families in a love of books and reading, and to have an impact on pupil attainment in reading and build confidence in parents to read with their children.
  • St Mary’s CE Primary Moston: Developing whole school involvement to support vulnerable families; Establishing the Family Support Worker role by creating a clear job description and understanding of the role.
  • Cheetham: Come dine with Dads; How Cheetham successfully involved over 26 dads, granddads, uncles and brothers in a “Come dine with me” project and the impact of this work.
  • Cheetwood: Engaging parents in assertive mentoring; How they effectively consulted with and involved parents in the introduction of an assertive mentoring programme and the significant impact of the programme on children’s outcomes.
  • Claremont: Key Stage 2 Reading; A successful workshop for year 2 and 3 parents on how to support children with reading and a new family detective project for KS2 children and their parents to develop the skills of questioning and inference. This has been developed by PEN is currently available as a training course and a stand alone resource pack.
  • Lisburne Special School: Developing a whole school approach; Describes how they developed a whole school approach to work with parents over 5 years. All staff now contribute to themed weeks, workshops and high quality accessible information with support from a family liaison teacher. Parents described communication as “amazing”.
  • Manchester Health Academy: Secondary Strategies; MHA describing how they successfully consulted with parents, involved them in writing a leaflet on bullying and ran workshops on cyberbullying.
  • Martenscroft: Making children’s learning visible; Martenscroft describes how through the “Making Learning Visible Programme” parents were consulted and then informed about a new system to share their child’s progress. A group of parents shared information with staff using video footage. The programme is thoroughly evaluated and led to significant progress.
  • St Bernards: Ready for school; How a PSA and the nursery staff successfully built relationships with parents, helped them prepare their child for school and enabled early identification of needs through a programme of Ready for School sessions.
  • St Malachy’s: Volunteers and Playclub; The impact of volunteers supporting Playclub at St Malachy’s Primary School.
  • The Willows: Parents’ residentials & Focus group; How The Willows have built relationships with parents through three residentials and developed a successful parents’ focus group.
